Description: I am an extreme iPhone and iPad user! Since the very first iPod Touch was released, I have been tapping, swiping, and sliding my way through thousands of apps. I've seen them all and know a good egg from a rotten one in no time! Although I am a student in college, I have access to many children in my family and they can assist in testing as well.

What I liked I utilized this app in conjunction with my 2 year old son and 3 year old nephew as per request by the developer. The app was extremely effective when it came to engaging them in top-notch fun and learning. Their experience with the app proved to be great after just a few uses and they constantly bugged for the iDevice back to play more. The phonics were great and the apps colors and activeness was essential and hit spot on. The flow of the app was also great for the kids that didn't really have much experience with my device.
Improvements There were a few places in the app that I had to navigate because the kids got stuck or didn't know how to operate something. I am not sure if the developer wants an app that can be 100% navigable by the toddlers but it would have been a nice feature. There were also certain times at which sounds or phonic elements stopped short of a lesson so there could be a few bug fixes in order but overall the app was not too bad.
General review The app is well worth the money paid for it - especially when I see the little one's faces light up when they learn something and start repeating what is being said. It has taught them more than I ever thought it would and for that I am pretty grateful. When seeing other young parents in our area now I automatically recommend this app for them to check out!

Budget Balance, version : 1.2 [text]

Rating
What I liked This is a wonderful app for any individual with a hectic life that hates keeping track of complicated receipts when on a tight budget. Being able to track individual expenses is a huge highlight of this app because receipts can just be added in at the end of your work day. The graphical interface is very sleek and makes using the app even more fun. Accessibility and the ability to add expenses and salary with just a few taps is amazing since most apps of this type take you through a maze of different combinations.
Improvements Although I have experience with bills and keeping track of expenses this app is almost too advanced for the basic user like myself. It is full-featured no doubt, but it would really help to have the option to keep a simple user interface if you don't need all of the features. When dividends and stock options came up I had to ignore them because I really have no clue how to do any of that. In some areas, such as the 'New Transaction' screen the text and options became a little cramped on the small iPhone screen. Perhaps spacing things better would be a viable option to fix this.
General review My experience with this unique budget tracker app was quite positive. Although at times it seemed like I needed a magnifying glass or a dictionary to understand what the application was asking for, overall it can be very instrumental in keeping up with what can be spent.

Tap Times Tables - Multiplication fun [text]

Rating
What I liked The graphical interface on this app is amazing! From the beginning menu screen to every one of its subviews the bubbles and consistent snowy theme adds a great touch to the application. Animation in the game is very creative and enjoyable for kids utilizing the application. The ability for users to review their stats and practice before going into 'mastery mode' was very helpful for my kids who loved the app as much as I did.
Improvements This app has very few issues so coming up with improvements has been difficult. One improvement that could be made is slightly tinting the bubbles on some menu systems (such as the settings menu) different colors. I felt that the options were cramped and you couldn't tell them apart well. It isn't a hinderance to the overall game, just something to think about for the future.
General review The fact that this app is 100% customizable is highly convenient. Sounds, language selection, launcher type, and difficulty can all be adjusted. The animations are wonderful for kids to get them motivated when learning boring times tables. Overall, I believe this application is a must purchase for any parent wishing to see their child excel to greatness!

Be a Buddy, Not a Bully -- A Tales of Midlandia Storybook v0.9 [text]

Rating
What I liked In the forefront this app is an amazingly thorough example of why kids need to be digitally influenced. The best part of the app was the obvious positive message it presented about not bullying. The book was well illustrated and the characters were ones that kids can easily relate and connect to. Gestures and actions to interact with the story along with strong audio assistance was a huge benefit to this application.
Improvements Though this app teaches amazing core values it did seem to get a bit repetitive at times during the book. Since there is such a push for the child reading the book to interact in order to get more out of the story, actions and gestures were used a few times too many. Maybe consider altering the continuation gestures so that the interactions don't seem quite so repetitive. Utilizing different combinations of movements would be a great idea.
General review Being that it is back to school time I feel this app does its part to convey the message of friendship throughout each page and to put down bullying. The creative interaction brings kids of all ages deeper into the app and its cheery context can't be outdone. Although actions began to get repetitive it was hardly a downfall for the very low bargain this app was.

Math Guardians 1.5 [text]

Rating
What I liked The fact that this app combined fighting and math was very creative - the first of its kind that I have seen. The controls were fairly easy to get used to and the animations and characters in the app were quite cool. I can easily see this app being a motivator for young children to learn math because of its fun factor.
Improvements The animals were a bit too large for my liking. It seemed most of the game was focused on the fighting characters rather than the math that was supposed to be completed. Sometimes you couldn't tell which number the fox or other animal was going to hit because when jumping it could potentially be hitting three number 'bubbles' at one time. I feel the game should be more focused on the math - space out the answer bubbles and make them larger.
General review Overall, I can see this as being a real help to children in honing their math skills if the few adjustments were made. If the answers were larger and more spaced out and the math element was more prominent I would recommend this to any parent with a child struggling in math. It can be wonderful for honing those quick reflexes in their brains!

Fido's Treehouse Scavenger Hunt v1 [text]

Rating
What I liked The best part about this app is its clear cheeriness. Colors pop off of the iPad screen and the exploration is very fluid. For a game of this type, having different levels of difficulty is great so that is a major plus for this application. The depth and interactivity is also a huge advantage because almost everything can be touched or moved, keeping the kids busy for hours.
Improvements Almost all sounds (especially the voice-overs) were of sub-par quality. Some of them sounded dull and some sounded like they had a bad echo when being recorded. There is always room to add in more content as well so an update to add more substance to the game would be amazing.
General review If you are looking for an application that will keep your kids busy and happy for hours on end this is the one. There are many areas to explore and the vastness of this game is what really pushes it over the 'purchase choice' limit. More instructions and better quality audio is key for this application's success but with those small changes it can be one of the best of its kind in the store.

What I liked The application did precisely what it was supposed to do. Having this application with you on the field would be a wonderful way to keep track of who is starting and who still needs more playing time. The overall look and feel of the app is nice and sleek - a key in 21st century apps. Having the ability to print, email, or tweet the lineup is very convenient as well.
Improvements The entire UI seems a bit hard to navigate in this application. When I attempted to reorder players they would be rearranged just fine but upon viewing the list again they were jumbled back to their original state. Editing multiple players at once would be a wonderful feature as well because it was a bit tedious having the ability to only add one player to the roster and change his/her information at a time. The application required too much flipping through menus and submenus so condensing those layers would be a smart move as well.
General review Having coached recreational leagues before, I know how crucial it is to have an app like this to help you decide where to place people. I think overall the app is a great tool but would absolutely love to see it expanded to more sports and the finer details like

Pin Tiki Ball 1.0 [text] [video]

Rating
What I liked The graphics in this app are simply amazing - no changes needed on that front. The smoothness of animations and creativity put into the game are amazing. The leader boards and achievements also add a nice incentive to the game that has encouraged me to keep playing long after the first game.
Improvements The menu system is a bit small on the iPhone 5, consider upsizing it a bit. The back button is cut off at the top on the smaller screen devices. Animations and zoom-ins during the game are a bit distracting and many times I lost complete sight of the ball and it eventually went out of play. It seems that the ball goes out of play on the right side too much as well, consider placing more barriers there.
General review All in all the graphics, sounds, and animations make this one of the best themed pinball apps I've ever played on the iPhone. It is fluid and, with a few improvements, can very easily be the best app of its kind out there on the App Store. The developer has done an amazing job at capturing all aspects of a great 3D game within this application.

EdgeMates - US Capitals v1.3 [text] [video]

Link to the App Store

Rating
What I liked The app is very fluid. Every button pressed or tile picked up had some kind of animation that made it feel smooth and natural. The game provides a fun way to learn states and capitals and for someone wanting that knowledge, there is no better way to learn them. The video play back feature is neat and the quick options menu to restart a game is very convenient.
Improvements Unfortunately, judging by the home screen, this app hasn't been made fully retina display compatible. Also, you aren't able to get back to the main menu until you actually win a game. Finally, the app asks if the user would like to continue a game even if no game is currently in progress.
General review This app is an extremely good learning tool for children of all ages or adults if they aren't comfortable with their knowledge of the states and capitals. Although it has a few flaws, they are not game-changing and I encourage everyone (young or old) to give this app a try because it can really add to your knowledge of our country with its amazing techniques.

Heidi story collection - 3 in 1, Version 1.0 [text]

Rating
What I liked The app is made perfectly for children. A nephew of mine read a book each night while I sat nearby and I could automatically tell that his interest level was held tightly. The application is beautifully illustrated and is abridged in a way that no content was lost from the original books.
Improvements The price point at $8.99 seemed a bit high at first but I guess it is reasonable for three digital books in one. Because of the accent, a few words (such as Switzerland) may be difficult for young children to understand. By having the child closely follow along in the digital book this problem can be resolved.
General review Overall, this app is wonderful for kids. The highlighting as words are read, clear voiceovers, brilliant animations/illustrations, and skillful writing techniques will keep children intrigued for hours over a book they would otherwise find boring. The developer truly brings together the best of the best with this book and, with a small price drop, the application would bring in a perfect review 100% of the time.

metronome [text]

Rating
What I liked This app is extremely handy for anyone that does anything with music. It is easy to open, operate, and set aside to guide you but installed right on your phone so you don't have to carry one around. The option to tap the metronome to set a speed was a highly convenient feature and I can see that coming in handy when composers are writing their own music with different rhythms.
Improvements When using this app for just a while, it performs flawlessly. However, I had a tiny bit of trouble with the application crashing on an older iPod (2nd generation) if the app was left running for more than about an hour. More color schemes is also an option but overall I wouldn't recommend changing much - the simplicity is amazing.
General review This app combines a great metronome, simple user interface, and colorful overlook to produce the best metronome app on the App Store. It is simply beautiful and works flawlessly. I will definitely recommend this app to anyone I know looking for a mobile metronome as it is worth every penny.

Kirin Wars [text]

Rating
What I liked The app looks and feels like a true RPG should on the iPhone. I have played many of the same types of games but none hit the fighting scenes better than Kirin Wars. It felt natural to make my way around the map and interactions and battles felt flawless.
Improvements Although the instructions presented on the app's main page were great, I found it to be extremely frustrating that I could not access them while playing. With a game this in-depth there should be much more mid-action instruction while a user is playing.
General review The amount of content that the developers have to work with is tremendous. The gameplay and fighting engine that has been placed into the game is spot-on. Perhaps with a bit more in-game instruction this RPG would be the perfect saga starter. I look forward to seeing more in the series since the storyline creatively leaves the end of the game a bit unfinished.

SociaLink 1.0.1 [text]

Link to the App Store

Rating
What I liked This application was extremely easy to use. Upon starting it up and going through the brief tutorial I had a good idea of how to begin interacting with different people. It is a great idea because taking names and phone numbers down is such a hassle, this app can make exchanging contact information much easier.
Improvements First of all, for this app to work to its full potential, it needs to be widespread. I had never heard of it so I do hope the developer does put more time and effort into getting the application known. Also, the user interface in reference to home screen menu buttons and the Facebook/Twitter popups feel a bit 'clunky' and outdated so I'd love to see a revamp of the user interface to make it more sleek and user friendly.
General review All in all, the application has huge potential. It could revolutionize the way business people and friends alike exchange contact information. The app works flawlessly but fails to deliver on the user interface side; a quality that I hold very highly in my evaluations. With a large influx in the user database, this application would be much easier to use and I see myself one day being able to use SociaLink to exchange information with anyone.

What's Faster LITE Cars- Ultimate Trivia & Puzzle Game [text]

Link to the App Store

Rating
What I liked This app had stellar graphics. From the menus to the startup screen to the actual game/garage scene, they all looked very well composed. The app was fluid and I never had trouble knowing where to go. It felt fast-paced and the radar power-ups were convenient and easy to use.
Improvements It would be nice for the application to have had a menu or escape button when moving to the next round because I didn't want to keep playing sometimes but it would force me to tap through. Also, having a greater selection of cars (4 at a time) would make the game much more challenging. I would've liked to have seen more cars matched up as well because I kept getting the same pairs multiple times.
General review This is one of the best apps I have ever tested. It felt like a real game and most of the matches between cars were pretty tough to figure out. Although the game had issues of similar car pairs being displayed more than once, the true spirit of the game and the fastest car aspect was brilliantly displayed.
