Christmas Karaoke: Christmas Carols & Christmas Songs vers 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked It was really nice to have the family sing along and get into the spirit of Christmas! My boys liked that they were able to sing along with the singers on the app. The app was really easy to use and was displayed well. We will be using this again!
Improvements While my children liked to sing along with the singers on the app, I wish there was a way to have a choice of just music so we can just sing or to be able to sing with the singers. Also, not all of the songs (like White Christmas) had singers and there was just music. This confused my family a little and we didn't know if it would be just music or both when selecting the songs. I also would love to be able to record our singing and have the ability to email the songs to family and friends that live far away. My family would love more kid friendly songs such as Rudolph and Frosty
General review This is a nice app for Christmas time. It really brings the family together and gets them into the holiday spirit! I can't wait to see further updates as this app adds more songs to its repertoire. It is displayed well and very easy to use. I can see my family using this app throughout this season and the years to come.

Baby Learns Simple Objects 1.1 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I liked the simplicity of the app.I like that you can change to different languages as well as record your own voice or a child's voice for the pictures/objects. I liked that it had two different levels. One where you can just hear what the word is and one that you need to listen to the direction and find the object that was asked for. I liked the coloring part as well.
Improvements *More movement/action on some of the pictures. The playground held more attention than others because there was more action in it. *Take out No! when wrong, use keep trying, guess again, etc. and add more with both (way to go! Great job! etc..), *reward was too difficult for little ones, maybe some mini-games, like other simple cause and effect games throughout. *Add more themes like pets, farm, zoo, ocean, vehicles, jobs, seasons, actions, etc.. *Fix some errors with vocabulary like goslings, blocks, strawberry, crib, pot, plates. Others were distorted like puddle, lamp, shelf, top, vase.
General review This is a great app! The scenes are full of pictures/objects and there are two levels for learning. One labels the pictures/objects when tapped while the other one asks you to find the different objects in the scene. Your child can also record his/her own voice for the pictures! Great for receptive and expressive language skills. The ability to download languages from around the world is also a great feature on this app!

Creativium - Paper Theater [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Wow, this is a fantastic app! I love the colors and the soothing sounds. Each animal has several movements. I love the raccoon protecting his acorn and the bird fixing his glasses. Even the clouds changing colors was a wonderful detail. Shaking the trees to have the fruit, leaves, and hearts fall off is a great idea too! All of my students gave this a thumbs up! Can't wait for the coming soon space scene!
Improvements *The ladybug is stuck on the bottom. You can only see a little bit of him. When you pull him up, he just falls back down. Would love to see him and see more animation with him. *Same with the snail, you can move him up, but then he just walks back down -maybe more animation with him as well. *Maybe have colorful flowers come up when touching the grass. *It would be neat to have the rainbow turn into different mini piano or xylophone tones to create music/songs. Maybe like the castle, it would turn into a mini game.
General review What a great app for young children! There is so much to do in the scene. There are soothing sounds and vibrant colors throughout. Your child can "grow" fruits, leaves, and flowers on the trees/bushes and shake them off. They can interact with various animals. The clouds change colors at the touch. The castle has stickers to create a scene. There was a lot of attention to details in this app! Can't wait for the next scene!

What I liked This is a fun and educational app for children. It's colorful and the music is great with it. I like how it creates a scene as you go along with the game. The literacy component matching everyday items with the words is excellent. This is a nice app that will keep a child engaged and learning.
Improvements *It was a little confusing how to start the game. It would be nice to access the next set of words to complete from the bottom instead of the top right menu. *I would like the app to say the letter when it's formed. *Each set did something with the last picture except the clouds. Maybe a wind sound or rain when you touch them. *Have the ability to change between night and day. *It would be great to have levels for the app. The first level could be the whole letters to match, the second could be the pieces to fit (in order like it is now), and the third could be the pieces in random order.
General review This is a fun and educational app for young children. It builds words with objects that children see everyday. After completion of 5 words, there is a scene that is built around the last item with lively interactive abilities. Very colorful with energetic music accompanying it. This is a nice app that will keep a child engaged and learning!

iTooch Middle School [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I liked the lessons that went along with the questions. It was very comprehensive and works well for independent studying. The app was great with the various areas covered. I like how it's based on the Common Core Standards. This is a great app for school and home.
Improvements *Fix spacing and grammatical errors on the help page. This is one of the first pages that you see and it can be a turn off. *When skipping the questions, it would be great if you could go back if you wanted to later on. *When the "tooch" does some movements, it covers over the answers so you can't read them. (When you have a picture or a longer passage.) * I expected the test questions to be different from the practice questions. I was surprised that they were the same. *The prices for the individual apps seem a little high.
General review This is a wonderful app. It is quite comprehensive with some really nice lessons that go with the questions. It's based on the US National Common Core Standards which is definitely a plus! It works well for independent studying and would be good for both school and home.

5 Dice: Order of Operations Game v1 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The bluetooth option was great. In a classroom, students can play against each other which adds more excitement to the game for them. The email option to mail parents and teachers their results is fantastic. They know which problems the student really struggled with. The email covers everything and breaks it all down. The printable section is great for more carryover activities. I liked that you can write your ideas down with the whiteboard option and try to figure out the problem.
Improvements *With the instructions in the 2A section, show the dice with the numbers (example: after 56, show the five die and six die next to it). *Within each section, create levels of difficulty. For each section, level one can start out with answers of no more than 10, Level two can be between 10-25, etc.. Then it can be customized further and target younger students and/or struggling students. In a classroom, there is a wide range of abilities. *As you're trying to figure out the problem on the whiteboard, have the ability to cross out which die you have used in your equation and which ones are left
General review This is a great app for students to work on their higher order thinking skills. There is a bluetooth option to play against a friend, sibling, parent, or classmate. There are printable activity sheets for carryover at home or in the classroom. There is also progress/data tracking through email to the teacher or parent. This is a very well thought out app!

Fuzzy Little Caterpillar [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is a catchy little tune that sticks in your head! The music section is excellent and I liked the different aspects of it. Match the beat, find the highest and lowest note, etc.. The science section was also well thought out and had a lot of interesting facts. I really liked the split screen between the moth and butterfly with the similarities and differences between the two.
Improvements *The 3 main screen/menu pictures should be bigger for kids to tap and be colorful. * I would like to hear the song without pushing the caterpillar. Maybe have two levels- a see/hear and a play level. One where you can just hear the song and the other how it is now.
*You should be able to open both the butterfly and moth on the song part. A student thought the other one had died because it wouldn't open and he was very sad.
*The bird is a little loud when flying.
*The music section is great, but it's a little long. Maybe have some mini games as you complete a section to break it up.
General review I thought the app was good, but the price is a little high. I think with more mini games or interactions, it would be worth this price. There are three sections. In the first, you can play the song. With the second, you can learn about the song with music, notes, and beats. The last section is the science section. You can learn about the lives and life cycles of caterpillars to moths and butterflies.

The Lonely Beast ABC [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I liked that the book displayed both upper and lower cases of each letter. I liked that most of the pictures did multiple sounds/movements when tapped. I liked that you can tap the letter and/or the word to hear it again. This was a simple book to learn the letters and one word/picture for each.
Improvements It is a little pricey for what you get. It would be great to add a couple of mini games to incorporate what they've learned. You can have them match the letter to the picture in the book or have other pictures to match with the letter.

Some parents might not like the "z" as "zed" if you want to target children in America.

I wish that the original story of the beast was incorporated a little more into this book. Some people might not know the original story.
General review This was a nice book that shows a picture beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Each picture makes a sound and/or movement when tapped. This is a nice book for working on early literacy and phonic skills. It's based on another story about The Lonely Beast.

Math Mathews 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I liked that you had three different sections to work on multiplication facts. This made it more fun and not as monotonous. It also combined the learning aspect with some actual game play instead of just a simple reward type of app. I liked the story line to go with the app as well so you can really get into the story more.
Improvements Wow, I was shocked in the diary section that "damn" was in there...this should be changed immediately! I do not want my children using this language and I don't think it should be in this app! Not too thrilled with "idiot" in there either! He's a pirate, so call him a scalywag or something else.

"to" was written twice in this section as well on the sixth page.

The lava section timer was a little too fast. It is a lot more difficult to get the correct numbers on this one and this one was pretty frustrating for my kids. All three sections may be too fast for struggling math students.
General review This is a nice app to work on multiplication facts. It makes it fun to learn instead of just drill work. There are three different sections to play and it is engaging and fun. My son does not like doing any kind of math apps and he actually liked this one. That is definitely a plus!

Wubbzy The Superhero [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is a great app! I like that there are three ways to read the book. There are a lot of interactions on each page. I liked the mini games as well. They were fun and engaging. The videos were also a plus. There is a lot packed into this app and it's well worth the price.
Improvements There isn't a lot that I can think of. In the book only section, it would be nice to be able to have the ability to touch a word and have it read to them if they don't know. I know it's in the read and play, but parents might want their child to just read it only and it would help with struggling readers to achieve success.
In the paint section, it would be nice to have a fill-in option (how it is now) and a paintbrush option to choose from.
General review This is a great app for Wubbzy fans. There are a lot of interactions throughout the book as well as extras such as videos, painting, and mini games. The book provides three different ways to read it and it is colorful and engaging for children. The questions at the end for the parents to expand on the book and the tie in to the core curriculum is excellent too.

Matryoshka! deluxe [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is a great app! I liked all of the different themes throughout. The music was lively and appropriate with each theme. The backgrounds and graphics were engaging and colorful. It's a good app to work on size comparisons, vocabulary, and concepts. I really like that there is a parental lock as well.
Improvements The mini games where you pop the balloons, bubbles, etc...at the end were a little long. There was no way that I could see to stop it or skip it. Adding a button to skip it would be nice so you can choose to play, play for a little bit, or just not play it at all.

It would be nice to have levels for each scene. Some had so many it was overwhelming for some students. The first level could be with only 3 items for young children or special needs children. The other levels can gradually add more dolls. It would be fun to guess what the addition would be for the next levels too.
General review This is a nice app that incorporates a lot of different themes using nesting dolls. The graphics and music are engaging and fun. It's a nice app to work on vocabulary with the different themes and dolls. Concepts such as comparing sizes and comparatives and superlatives can also be targeted with this app.

4 Dice: Fraction Games v1 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Another great app from this developer! I like the bluetooth option to play head to head with classmates, friends, siblings, parents, etc.... It really adds more excitement for the student. This app would be great for home or a classroom to work on adding, subtracting, mutiplying, and dividing fractions.
Improvements If you get the answer wrong, your choices are "redo shot" or "shoot again" which seem like the same thing. When choosing shoot again, it gives you the solution and you can't try it again. Very confusing. It should be "give up" , "new problem", or "show solution" on the right side and "redo shot" or "try again" on the left side.

After completing a shot and getting it right, your only option is to shoot again. There should be an option to go back to the home screen if you want to switch from one area to another or if you want to quit the game.
General review This is a great app to work on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. My fourth grade son is working on adding fractions in school right now and this app has really helped him. He loves playing head to head using the bluetooth and it makes learning fun!

Simply Missy:Shopping Adventure [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Missy is an adorable little girl. I like the concept of going shopping for a variety of items that you see/use in everyday life. This app has so much more potential for learning about earning "money" (jewels) and buying items (which I wish you could actually do!).

The variety of the mini-games was great (the second ones) like the mazes, the candy catching, the ball games, etc..

I like at the end in her home it shows everything that you purchased throughout the game.
Improvements I liked the mini- games, but three was way too many before buying the item. Only one or two would be better. Maybe take out the ball with the hoop for each one.

I wish you could actually buy the items, that's shopping! Maybe make them all different amounts using the jewels for each. Then you can count out the jewels into a cash register to actually pay for the item. You collect the jewels, but then you can't really use them. This could be in place of the bonus round where you just pop balloons and bubbles.

I would love to see the clothes that you bought to be able to go on Missy too.
General review Simply Missy is an adorable little girl going on a shopping spree. The graphics are nice and the music goes really well with the app. You have a choice of buying a variety of items in nine different categories including clothing, food, pets, flowers, and toys. Fun mini-games throughout add to the fun of this app.

Animal Planet Hide & Seek Pets [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Another great app by this developer! This app is full of games, activities, and facts to learn about various pets. I like the different games with each animal. The music section was really fun. The sticker section has a lot of nice backgrounds and graphics. The core curriculum in the parents section is also great.
Improvements Not a lot I can think of. I would like to see the "learn" section have a parental lock on it. I know there's one for the feedback and rate sections, but there should be one just to get into this whole section.

I wish when you touch the words, they say the word for struggling and/or new readers. It highlights the word, but doesn't say the word.

Some of my students really wanted to feed the animals (the carrot to the rabbit, the bone to the dog). They were disappointed that you couldn't move these objects and they were just facts about the animals.
General review This app is packed with games and activities to learn about various pets. On top of four games and fun facts for each animal, there is also music, painting, and sticker sections in this app. A parent section is also included with questions to expand learning. The tie in to the Common Core State Standards is also a plus. This is a great app!

Live Puzzle! Forest Animals [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This was a great twist on puzzles! I really liked the action and movements in the puzzles. My students really enjoyed them too. It was nice to work on action words and wh- questions with this app! The pictures were really colorful and very engaging!
Improvements I like that it had difficulty levels with the different sizes and number of pieces, but I wish on the easy mode it was fixed so you can't put the piece in the wrong area. Have it so it would go back to where you picked it up from.

When you select the difficulty level, there is no way you can go back without choosing a puzzle. I wish there was a go back button.

I would love to see other puzzles...maybe put them in different themes like transportation, farm animals, ocean animals, etc...
General review This is a great twist to puzzle apps. The movements and actions in each puzzle were a hit with my students! They really enjoyed trying to figure out each puzzle and the four different difficulty levels really helped with their various levels of need. They all gave it a thumbs up and wanted more puzzles!

Talking Duke 1 4.3 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is another app that repeats your voice back but with other features. I liked the heart and the moon icons with his actions.

The video of the dog unlocking the icons was cute. There were a lot of animations with this and I wish I could use this at work. This would be a good app for expressive language, but with the inappropriate ads, I would be unable to use it for work in my school district.
Improvements The icon with the cat was confusing because I expected a cat, but the dog just laughed. But then the boot icon showed him riding a cat which doesn't go either.

If this is supposed to be geared for kids, most of the ads are inappropriate. You have Hellfire, Modern War, Total Domination reborn, and Contract Killer 2 ads on the bottom as well as videos.

When you click on the Info button on the bottom, it just pulled up more ads like a slot machine. When you're in this area and you click on the X, the screen goes black and just the music plays....you have to exit the app and restart it.
General review I went to watch a video to earn treats and a pop up said that "We are currently out of videos to show you. Please try again later." I tried it again and got different videos which were not kid friendly or appropriate if you are gearing this for children. Only a couple were appropriate for children. This is like other apps out there, but they don't have inappropriate ads for children. I would not be able to use this app at work to use with kids.

Sound Tap Quiz 1.0.5 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I liked that the pictures were for the most part realistic. I like that there is a learning section and that there are up to five different sounds for each object. Not everything sounds the same all of the time and that is important when learning the sounds. The quiz is good to find out what has been learned with each section.
Improvements I wish there was an option for fewer choices. Nine is too much for some kids. This would be beneficial for younger students as well as children with disabilities. Also have fewer options for the different sounds instead of up to five- easy, med, hard levels that get harder.

I would also like to have more options of the length of the quiz besides just 6, 12 or endless.

I wish all of the pictures were realistic. The monkey in the wild animals section really stands out (not in a good way) because it's more like a cartoon drawing. Other pictures stand out as well, but not as bad as the monkey.
General review This is a nice app to work on listening skills of various sounds with pictures that includes both a learning section and a quiz section. It covers various themes such as transportation, household items, birds, instruments, and farm and wild animals with up to five different sounds for each picture. You can work on listening skills, vocabulary, directions, and attention to tasks. All in all a nice app to have!

Magical Music Box v1.15 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is a wonderful app! I really liked the variety of songs and the different music boxes. I liked that you can make the music by hand or have it automatically done for you. I liked the ? button that told you the title, composer, and details about the song.
Improvements I liked the pictures for each song so children know which one to pick, but I wish you also had the titles for adults to read and be able to choose more quickly what song to play.

It was a little confusing at first picking the other songs. I thought we would see a new music box, but it just went to the last one that was picked. For example, we picked a Christmas song so I thought it would go to the Christmas music box, but it went to the space one since that was the last one played. Maybe have it so you can pick the song and then pick which box you want.
General review This is a really great app with a lot of different songs and music boxes to choose from. It also gives a description of each song. It is really simple to use and very calming as well. The pictures were so colorful and the movements were fun. This was a well thought out app!

Wubbzy's 123 Learn & Play [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Wubbzy apps are so great! There are so many positives with little to no negatives! I like that you can choose different icons in the tracing section. The videos are so catchy with great messages too. I like the tutorial in the paint section. This is a well thought out app!
Improvements This section is difficult because the app is really good how it is. I wish on the princess and the meatball games you can choose either the numbers in order ( how it is now) or random order to mix it up. The other games have them in more of a random order.
General review Wubbzy 123 is another great app in the series. There are so many activities to learn, play, and have fun. This app is well worth the price and will keep a child interested in it for a long time. There are coloring pages, games, videos, and much more!

Good Night Wubbzy Bedtime Counting [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Another great Wubbzy app. I love how you put the different characters to sleep. I really like the different options for reading. The interactions, videos, and the games are also great. The tutorial in the coloring section is also good. The tie in with the core curriculum is also a plus.
Improvements This section is always tough with Wubbzy apps because they are so good! Maybe have the book end with the "Good night" or the Grown-up's corner. It continues into the games and the Common Core. Parents might just want it to end there with just the book, but kids may see those arrows and want to play the games. Have the games access only through the menu.
General review This app does not disappoint! None of the Wubbzy apps do though! This one is a great bed time story with games and activities to go along. Putting each character to bed by counting their favorite things (1-10 in order) is so cute! The videos are also a plus!

iTooch Math Grade 5 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is a very comprehensive app for math. It covers the areas needed for 5th grade curriculum with the common core standards in mind. A lot of thought went into this app!

I really like how the five main areas are broken down further into subcategories to learn/practice/test on specific targets. There are so many exercises included in this app.

The lessons included for each question are excellent. They are very colorful and informative. This is a great app!
Improvements If you take too long answering a question, the iTooch character will go to a skeleton, lay down and whistle, look at his watch, show a clock, etc... I know you should answer quickly, but a child who really struggles in math and school might not like this. It can also be too much of a distraction with a child (ADHD, developmental delays, etc..) Sometimes the picture is too big as well and it covers up the question and/or answer.
General review This is a very comprehensive app that ties in with the common core math standards for fifth grade. It covers a wide range of categories/areas. There is a practice and a test mode. In practice mode, there are descriptive lessons with diagrams. This is an excellent app for fifth grade math!

Tic Toc Time: Break down the day to learn how to tell time [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The five different sections to learn about time was great. This app taught so much more than just a clock and time. The sixth section was fun but a bit challenging.

I liked how each section was broken up further to 2-3 different areas to go back and review if needed.
Improvements The loading time is very long and all of the kids did not like that. One time, it was in french. The app also crashed a couple of times while playing it. It froze a few times as well.

After receiving the seeds, water, and sun, we tried to plant them with the last section, but we only got a "Welcome in your Montessori garden" with a description saying that you can have a virtual garden. The kids were disappointed that they "earned" these items and were unable to do anything with them.

The app icon says Tic Tac Time instead of Tic Toc Time.
General review This app is a great app to learn about time. There are five sections that teach time including a compass, sun and shadows, time from space, and learning the faces of the clock. This app teaches so much more than just a face of a clock! I was pleasantly surprised with all that was in this app!

Math Mathews : Mental Math 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Another great math app from this developer. Like the other one, it is connected to a game and will keep the student engaged longer. The game is pretty fun and the graphics are good. It moves pretty quickly too which is important to keep them interested. I like the hints and tips section that explains mental math.
Improvements It took awhile to get the controls (holding your finger down on the screen) to get the hang of the game part. Maybe a quick tutorial with this would be beneficial.

I wish there were more math problems to solve each time. There were only 5 problems to solve each time. I wish there was a setting to be able to choose how many you would like. Then it could be customized further for each child.
General review Another great app from this developer! While it focuses on addition and subtraction using mental math, it also makes it fun to learn for kids! This is a great app for children to learn/practice their math skills in a way to keep them engaged through a game with great graphics and sounds.

Plume's school - Animals [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is a good app to learn about various animals through a variety of games and activities. I like that there were different levels and games to increase the level of difficulty. I like that there were different languages to choose to learn from as well.
Improvements In the bubbles game, I wish you could push a button to hear which animal to click on in case you needed to hear it again. It only says it once in the beginning.

In the word scramble games, I would like to hear each letter named when putting them in the correct spots.

I wish there were verbal directions on a lot of these games. On fun quizz, there should be a direction saying something like "match the picture on the top with the word".
General review This is a nice app that teaches various animals through a variety of games and activities. You can play a matching game, follow simple directions, match words with pictures, spell their names, etc... There are four different languages to choose from as well.

Jack and the Beanstalk a Mathematical Adventure - HD V1.1 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This was a story and a math adventure in one! I like the colorful illustrations throughout the story. I really liked how the math was incorporated throughout the story with different types of equations involved. The math utilized a lot of word problems that correlate with the common core.
Improvements I wish there was an option to just read the story instead of having it read to you.

I wish you couldn't go on with the book until you got the math equation right. It also took a while to figure out the button to check to see if you had the right answer.

I wish there was an option to have more math equations. Maybe have a button to go into a "game" section. You could have more time questions, beanstalk equations, etc..If a child had difficulty with one particular section, he/she could practice in this area as well. I know in the book it's different each time though...I liked that!

General review This is a nice twist on an old classic with math introduced throughout. It is very colorful and engaging as well. It's great how it incorporates ELA and math into one app! This is a great app to help with students in the younger grades with math that includes word problems.

Monsieur Bear's ABC [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This app was on the right track to introduce letters, their sounds, and words that begin with each letter. I like the animations of the pictures that go along with the letters. Some of them were cute and pretty creative. The app was pretty colorful throughout.
Improvements I would like to see the letter said when you choose it. Maybe the second page that has the letter and the sounds should go first and then the page with all of the pictures. The "c" page did not say the letter sounds though. I would like to see the letter and sounds for each one.

I would like to see less pictures on each page and then add more pages for each letter.

When clicking on the letters that are locked, other words randomly pop up. I pressed the "z" and "koala" popped up. The same goes for other links like the "all the letters" button, I got "jaguar".
General review This app has potential with some improvements made. The buttons/links need to be fixed instead of random words popping up. Even the parents corner link doesn't work. The only link that works takes you to a site that says is under construction. As it stands, this app needs some updates.

Plume's School - Saving Christmas [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked There were a lot of different activities to do in this app. I liked that you could play the app in a game type of mode, or free mode. I liked that some of the areas had three different levels of difficulty. It was colorful and engaging for children to learn and play.
Improvements There was not a lot that I would like to see improved.

The witch/Halloween scene threw the kids off a little....maybe just keep it winter and Christmas only.

The woo hoo and positive verbal reinforcement got too repetitive. It would be nice to have more such as "way to go!", "you did it", or "awesome".
General review This is a good app that includes a lot of different activities. Some of these include following simple directions, improving vocabulary skills, improving listening skills, and improving reading skills. It will keep a child entertained with a wonderful Christmas theme throughout.

Christmas Karaoke App: 12 Carols [text]

What I liked This app was a nice addition to the holiday season.

I liked that you could choose to hear the vocals or just have the instrumental music.

I also liked the four different background choices to change the look up of the app.

This app had a nice variety of classics and children's favorites to choose from.
Improvements There isn't a lot that I can think of for this section.

Of course, more songs would be great to see. Songs like Frosty the Snowman, Oh Christmas Tree, and Deck the Halls for a few examples.

I was surprised when I played just the instrumental that you can still hear the vocals. It's not that big of a deal, but you still can.
General review This is a nice app to get your family into the holiday spirit. The app provides 12 different songs that you can play with or without the vocals. It also has four festive backgrounds to choose from. What a great way to gather the family together and get into the spirit of the holidays!

Princess and Knight [text]

What I liked This is another fun and educational app from this developer. I like the variety of activities throughout the app. I also like that there are 3 different difficulty levels to play. The app is colorful and engaging throughout and my students enjoyed playing with it.
Improvements I would like to see the parental lock change each time you attempt to go in. I tried several times and it was the same each time with the answer in the same position. I would also like to see the puzzle section increase in difficulty. Maybe break the individual pictures up into sections for different levels.
General review This is a fun app that works on vocabulary skills, following directions, letter recognition, spelling, and memory skills. It's colorful and engaging throughout. With three different difficulty levels, it will grow with your child. This is another nice app from this developer.

Kilubu : Magic Potions 1.0.1 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This app was fun and it was a hit. I liked that there were a lot of different potions to figure out, some were really creative. It was colorful and engaging and the different clips of Sacha when he tries them were great! I liked the steps that were needed to create the potions as well.
Improvements When you pin up a recipe, there's a question mark next to the ingredients when unknown, but the fire level just shows low. It should have a question mark next to it as well when the level is unknown. We kept doing a recipe that we thought was right when pinned, but it needed a high fire to it. It worked with 4 and 5 potions, (the question is in the circle) but not 2 and 3 potions.

When you perform a bad potion, it says "Too bad! This potion is successful", which is incorrect.

The app worked on my iPad, but it kept crashing on my iPod's.

Would like potions on other characters.
General review This was a fun and creative app that mixes various ingredients to make potions. It uses several steps per potion and the fun part was watching the outcome of the potions. It was colorful and engaging throughout. However, it only worked on my iPad, and kept crashing using my iPod's.

Meet Science: Magnetism and Electricity (v1.0.1) [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I like how comprehensive it is with videos, quizzes, experiments, etc.... The floating object over the magnets was a huge hit! The dictionary/glossary was great to improve vocabulary and concepts as well as to learn about various scientists. The mini games were a nice addition as well.
Improvements I would like to see the true/false or yes/no answers with words or something other than an "X" or an "O". The students were a little confused with which one to pick.

The size of the app is very big, I would like to see the size reduced. When you have limited capacity, this app will be one of the first deleted due to its size.
General review This is a great app for school-aged children to learn about how magnets and electricity work. It is very comprehensive throughout and includes videos, experiments, fun games, and quizzes. This app is well worth the price and there was a lot of thought put into it! This is a great app!

Annie's Picking Apples 2 [text]

What I liked This app is a nice app that reinforces numerals from 1-20. I liked the choices of other languages as well (English, Spanish, French, or German). The different activities were great and kept the attention of the students. They enjoyed making the pies!
Improvements The app crashed a couple of times while playing.

The app allowed me to go to the end where the "Congratulations" ending scene is right from the beginning of playing.

You could go to any level. I would like to see them "locked" and only open when you have completed the previous level.

The Halloween and Christmas mini games were very hard to control.

I wish there were more tutorials/guidance throughout. Some of the activities had little to none, and they were difficult to figure out.
General review This app is a nice app that reinforces numerals from 1-20. It also includes other fun activities such as jigsaw puzzles. There are other seasonal activities that included Halloween, Christmas, and Easter. There are also 4 different languages to choose. With the addition of more directions/tutorials to help guide the way, this app would be a nice addition to help practice with numbers from 1-20.

Word Creativity Kit - Play with the language [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I like the variety and the options available to use. There were a lot of different background choices, stickers, fonts, etc... to choose from.

I like that you can choose more words than are on the page or make up your own.

I like the tutorial that helps you figure out where the options were. The videos were a little fast at times for younger children though.

Improvements It was extremely frustrating trying to get the options on the left of the screen open. We pressed it, slid it, you name it and it would not open. Then all of a sudden it would open. It would be much better if there was a button in the corner to open the extra options up.

I liked that you could get more words and/or create your own. I wish the words that you can select from the left were in categories. If you want a verb, noun, adverb, adjective, etc... you can select it from a list and then only the verbs, nouns, etc.. that you chose would come up.

The app froze and crashed a few times.
General review This is a good app that works on creative writing skills. There are a variety of options to choose from such as backgrounds, stickers, and fonts to enhance the stories that are written. This is a great app for at home or in a classroom setting to work on a group project.

PicoToons Coloring Book (v1.0.1) [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I like that there are three difficulty levels to color the illustrations.

The different patterns instead of solid colors were a big hit with all of the students.

There were a lot of pictures to choose from in a variety of categories.

The child lock features are good, except, see below.
Improvements I wish there was a child lock to get into the settings. A child can easily get in there and turn off the locks that the parent sets. This defeats the purpose of the mathematical equations.

I would like to see speech bubbles and/or have the ability to add text to the pictures. I know there are the letters, but that is more difficult to manage.

More pictures would be great. There was a request for vehicles from a student.

It would be great to be able to put these pictures into a cartoon strip or graphic novel type of page to create a story with the pictures.
General review This is a fun app to color a large variety of pictures. The app consists of three difficulty levels to cover a wide age range. The colors and textures to choose from are quite varied as well. There are also child-lock features that are an excellent way to keep parents informed of what is being saved and done.
