The Ant and the Grasshopper v1.1 [text]

What I liked This app was colorful and visually enticing. at first glance, the three dimensional aspects during the alternate pages are very inviting. My son liked watching the insects moving while he touched the screen and liked that the pages moved when he moved. The colors were realistic to the story.
Improvements The only feature I did not really enjoy was the directions going away so quickly. If i clicked the page too fast, the directions were gone and could not be retrieved. It would be great if there was an OK button to click to remove the directions instead of having them go away with a simple touch.
General review I liked the concept of the app. My son loves interactive stories. This app was a fun way to tell this classic tale. The way the storybook moved with the ipad kept my child's attention as well as the interactivity feature on every other page. This app would make a great addition to any interactive library.

Playground HD3 - ABC Edition v1.2.0 [text]

What I liked This app was completely engaging. the different options for voice and for letter styles seem to provide enough enrichment for many users. I also liked the colorful pictures and the star rewards for completing each task. It was also nice that the matching game grew harder as the players went on.
Improvements I would love to see an American English feature for this app. The British English is great, but many children in America could be thrown off by a new accent while learning and reviewing their letters. It was also a little frustrating when letter tiles would "fall" out of grasp. The sensitivity seemed to be a little off.
General review This app is a great resource for any household or classroom. Children of many ages can increase their letter recognition skills, as well as their letter formation and recall. The boldly colored animals and engaging games will pull your child right in. This app is a welcome activity in my classroom and at home.

Paddle Duck in Where's Carrie Cat? An Interactive Story V1.2 [text]

What I liked This app was colorful and entertaining. The music pulled my almost two year old in. The characters were welcoming and had just the right amount of animation without going overboard. I also liked that there was more to do on each scene than just what was expected. My son really enjoyed seeing the fun things that would happen by pressing the lily pads, flowers, characters...etc. We both also enjoyed the dancing and singing toward the end of the program. Another great feature was having a forward and backward button to go back and redo a page.
Improvements I would love to see a feature where you didn't have to start at the beginning of the program each time. We had to leave in the middle, and my son had to restart the entire program instead of being able to pick up where he left off. Another suggestion is having all of the words closed captioned and not just the main story. During some of the songs, I would have liked to been able to read what was being said also. I also would have liked the stars in the app to show up a little later. It would have been nice to give my son a chance to figure it out before the answer appeared on the screen.
General review This app is definitely entertaining for very young children. My almost two year old son loved interacting with the characters as well as the background and scenery. I would have loved to see the game become a little more challenging, but overall we thought it was great for a short bit of fun. The song at the end of the program also really caught his attention. I feel we will be playing this app for quite some time in our house.
