Sight Words & Spelling with Pixopop [text]

What I liked I really like the clarity of the female voice reading the words and giving instruction. Diction was very good. The graphics are clean and professional. The word lists are excellent and appropriately categorized. I liked that you earn a trophy when you unlock a level, and that there's a trophy room to show off your progress!
Improvements Even though the graphics are clean and professionally rendered, I'm not a big fan of the style of the characters. They seem a little creepy to me, but that's probably just me. I think the style issue is a matter of personal preference and for all I know, that style is probably cool right now. The only other real thing that I might want to see would be to track multiple players. For families where the kids share an iPad, this could be an issue.
General review Overall, I really like this app. I think the structure is educationally sound and fun to use. The colors are appealing the word lists are excellent. The text is easy to read and the user experience is easy to follow without any direction. You can use the app right when it starts. The tone of the app is gender neutral, so all kids would enjoy using it! I think it's a terrific sight word application! Bravo!

Bo's Dinnertime v 1.0 [text]

What I liked The artwork is very cheerful and kid-friendly. I like that the journey of dinnertime covers all the steps that go into preparing, eating, and cleaning up after a meal. The song is catchy and well executed. The overall sound design is very good. I like that there are lots of healthy foods displayed.
Improvements I would like more variety in the actual steps. Maybe different methods of cooking an item could vary from use to use? Very young kids love repetition, so this is probably not necessary. Another mini-game would be fun and add some variety. Maybe something like sorting foods into food groups?
General review Bo's Dinnertime is a great app for young children and introducing them to the full process of mealtime - preparing, eating, and cleaning up after a meal. Many healthy foods are included, as well as a variety of treats. There is a mini-game where you select different foods and "eat" them by tapping on them. This is a good first step for kids with an aversion to certain foods. The music and artwork are bright and appealing to young kids! Fun!

What I liked I loved that this app is designed for kids on the go. You must move around to really get the full effect of this app. The music for the splash screen and car radio is perfectly suited for this app. It feels like car chase music! The four transportation environments are all different, but with enough similarity that it's easy for a younger child to use and enjoy. There isn't anything I didn't like about this app, honestly!
Improvements One thing might be to add more sounds to be randomly played on features like the car radio and helicopter speaker. Another possible addition would be more objects overlayed in the window when the user is driving - like fish/sharks/whales going by, or a starfish stuck to the window, or maybe weather like rain.
General review Happi Full Throttle is a fantastic app designed for active play. Follow the parent recommendations to encase your device in something protective like an OtterBox, because the child must move around with it to really have fun. There are four transportation environments for the child to explore: firetruck, helicopter, sportscar, and submarine. Each has a different feel, but are related enough to be friendly to a youngster. Great to get kids moving!

What I liked The artwork is really very beautiful and clever throughout the entire app experience. The music and sound design was very appropriate and well crafted. The hidden animal activity is very engaging and fairly difficult. It was fun for both the kids and myself for longer than expected, simply because of the difficulty and the clever art. The narrator voice was pleasant to listen to. My kids and friends agreed that the art was truly the highlight of this app, which I assume is probably the highlight of the physical book. It was pretty cool how each frog had its own sound!
Improvements The Hidden Animal activity is beautiful, sophisticated, and frustrating. We enjoyed it for the most part, but some of the animals are extremely difficult to find and tested our patience. Perhaps assigning difficulty levels to the different animals or being able to choose a palette of animals to search for based on difficulty would be helpful, especially for younger kids. My adult friends and I even had some difficulty finding some of the animals! I didn't really like the page transitions and would have preferred a page turning animation, rather than a slide.
General review This is a beautiful book app! The artwork is engaging and clever because there are multiple images embedded in each illustration creating a rich visual experience. The sound design is equally excellent. The hidden animal activity is fun and challenging. High quality app - worth its price. Perfect for elementary students, but also appealing to older ages because of the high-quality and sophisticated artwork.

What I liked There is a lot to like in this app! Music, graphics, illustrations, voice, sound effects, and variety of language options were all very good! I like the goal of having accessories to decorate the tiger. Also, the tile/dice/domino exercise is really nice. Good effects, nice length, looks good.
Improvements I would like to see some variety and maybe shortening of the applause feedback after every example. I could see the repetition of that shortening gameplay because it's annoying after awhile. It's well executed, but very repetitive and a tad too long. Took too long to figure out the reward system. Also, the parent page doesn't scroll, and is cut off. I would like to see French added. In the last section of the app, I did 23 questions, then it crashed.
General review I think this app is a fun addition to any preschooler's or young elementary student's device. Also, it's great for learning numbers 1-10 in several languages. The app is beautifully rendered as well as very nice audio elements (music, speech, effects). The questions are grouped in good sizes for achieving progress with the awards.

What I liked Upon my first review of all of the function areas, the graphics look good, the sounds are good, looks like all the right areas you'd need for a functioning budget program. I definitely like budgeting tools, especially on my mobile devices. It should make it easier to stick to your financial goals. Some particular things I liked: variety of categories and option to create my own, recurring transactions, and overview. The picture icons look pretty good and I think are fairly descriptive and appropriate for each option.
Improvements I wouldn't mind the contrast being higher between the grayish and light blue items. It can be difficult to read. The text is extremely small. I understand that it needs to be small to fit on the screen, but it is fatiguing, especially with the low contrast (black text on medium gray). I'm not sure why you need a location option in this program. I received an error every time I tried to use that feature. I just tried to add an expense with a picture and a note attached to it, which I think is a totally awesome feature, but it's stuck. I've added a video to YouTube (unlisted) http://youtu.be/WeQ0RwD8D0E
General review I really like this app! The overview is very revealing, which is a good thing. If you are using a budgeting app, you want to actually see the big picture of your finances. I love all the different categories for expenses and income and the ability to add your own. The recurring transaction feature is really good, too. Overall, I'm very pleased with this app and will attempt to set it up to use it in with my real life figures and see if it improves my money managing skills. It's been very easy to setup and the key will be if I can stick to using it. Great job.
