Story Dice 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked There is a lot of variety in the pictures. I like that you can choose how many dice you want because I can adjust it depending on the type of game we want to play. The tips section is a wonderful resource with many great ideas on how to use the dice.
Improvements I like to see even more picture options and perhaps themes to write a certain type of story' like holidays, back to school, animals...
I'd like to see a button to "save" the dice. My 5 year old son has a tendency to tap the die he is referring to causing him to roll again and lose the ones he had.
General review Great story dice app! There are a lot of different pictures which makes for a lot of different stories to be told! I love that you can choose how many dice you want (1-10) so I can adjust it based on how many players we have, how long we want the story to be, and the ages of the players.
The tip sheet has many many great ideas on how to use the dice!

Sight Words & Spelling with Pixopop [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love that you can self check with the flash cards. When you tap the word it says it outloud so my kids can use the app alone if they so choose. The characters are fun and new and keep the app entertaining while still educational. I like that in the spelling portion the vowels on the keyboard are in a different color because it shows the difference between consonants and vowels. The custom list feature is wonderful! I can set up lists to go along with the sight word units we are already doing.
Improvements In the spelling portion I'd like to see an option to have the letters set up like a regular keyboard instead of alphabetical order because at this age they should be practicing using a proper keyboard.
I would also like to have the ability to have multiple users or accounts. With multiple kids I want to be able to see how each child is performing.
General review We love this app! Is it colorful and entertaining but at the same time is it great sight word practice.
I love the custom list feature because I can set up a list of the sight words my kids are currently learning in their school work.
In flash card mode you can tap the word and it is said aloud so my kids can self check.
The word challenge is fun and quick; great for practicing reading sight words efficiently.

Bo's Dinnertime v 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked It's very colorful and bright, which really grabs the attention of my kids. I love how interactive it is. The food presented is healthy and not junk food. I appreciate that there is an entire 'cleaning the table and dishes' part. And I like that the arrow to move forward blinks after a moment to let my kids know they need to tap it.
Improvements I would like more instruction. I wasn't quite sure where to start and what I could click on in the menu. It would be nice to be able to choose what recipe they are going to make (or have them choose). A scene with paying for the food at the store would help with math and money skills, or at least showing that the food is not free.
General review This is a really cute and colorful app. My kids (2 and 5) really enjoy playing through it and have played it through multiple times. While its the same story line each time, the recipe does change. It is very interactive and has positive food and clean up associations.

Alphabet Jumbled v1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The letters are bright and attention grabbing which is important for this age range. I like the different games you can play. My 3 year old plays this and has fun and doesn't even realize he is learning! My 5 year old liked playing too and it helped him learn alphabetical order. The fish game was a favorite for both of them!
Improvements I think some of the flash card words were inappropriate for the letter, such as ice for I, orange for O, and xylophone for X. The phonetic sounds for those don't match (the i and o are long in those words). Better choices would be igloo, octopus, and x-ray. I also wasn't thrilled with the font as the letters didn't look standard enough for kids still learning the alphabet.
General review This is a great app for alphabet practice - whether your child needs to learn their ABCs, learn the letter sounds, or learn alphabetical order. The letters are bright and attention grabbing while the games are fun and engaging. My kids are 3 and 5 and both enjoy playing this app!

Puzzleosaurus - Dinosaur Jigsaw puzzles [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The beginner level is easy enough for my 3 year old to do and the advanced version is just enough of a challenge for my 5 year old. They can work together on the puzzles. I love the facts about each dinosaur and that the dinosaurs names are pronounced when working on the puzzle. The puzzles are pleasing to look at and really grab my kids attention. I also like that the facts are put into terms that my kids can understand - ie weighs 1/10th of a car
Improvements I would like to see the length and weight in terms of feet/lbs in addition to the comparison to cars and buses. I think more facts about the dinosaurs would be nice too. Of course more puzzles and more dinosaurs would be great. And maybe a page that compared the height and weight of the dinosaurs to each other or to other animals today.
General review This app is not only cute but also educational! For a dinosaur lover, this is a must! My 3 and 5 year olds love playing it and love listening to the facts about each dinosaur. The puzzle on beginner level is easy enough for my 3 year old and 5 year old, but there is also an advanced mode for when my 5 year old wants a bit of a challenge.

Trucks JigSaw Puzzles [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The puzzles are very cute and interesting to both my 5 year old and 3 year old. The videos at the end are great and I love that they can be replayed as many times as my kids desire. The app is very easy to work so my kids don't need assistance to play.
Improvements I like that the difficulty increases with the puzzles, but I'd like to be able to select what difficulty level myself. My 3 year old wants to do the harder puzzles but they are too difficult for him. I would love to have the trucks named when the puzzle is complete. We also had trouble with selecting the piece we want. Sometimes it toggles to another piece that is close by. With the timer function I'd like to see the times recorded for future reference.
General review Very cute puzzle app that both my 5 year old and 3 year old can manage on their own! The pictures are interesting and the movies at the end are entertaining. The puzzles increase in difficulty so my kids aren't getting bored by just easy puzzles.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Factory: Place Value (v1.0) [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love that this app really turns learning into a game. It's inviting and interesting. I also like that it starts at counting and goes all the way to division. A large age range could enjoy this app. I like that it is timed but there is enough time to work out the problem without worrying. Also, I like that there are multiple users and it tracks the usage. I think this app has great educational value especially as a practice tool.
Improvements It took me a little while to figure out how to play the game. I think a more prominent order form would help. I'd also like to see how much each cookie/package/box is worth while playing the game. And I'd like to know how many levels I have until the shipment is complete.
I think it would also be nice to have a challenge level that is more timed.
General review This app is great for anyone who needs or wants to practice counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division! A large age range could enjoy this app! It is engaging and fun and really focuses on the math. You can have multiple users and it will keep track of your score.

Animal Puzzle for Kids and Toddlers [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The images are wonderful. They appeal to my kids (3 and 6) and I like them too. I love that the puzzles aren't all the same - some are squares, some are jigsaw, and some you put the animals in their spots. The variety keeps my boys engaged. I like that to exit a puzzle you have to draw the square over - no accidental closing of puzzles. But my favorite part is the balloons at the end of the puzzles. Even I enjoy trying to pop all the balloons before they reach the top.
Improvements I noticed that on one of the puzzles the sun moves when you touch it - I'd love to see more animations like that. I would like to see users so I can track what each of my kids is doing and how they are progressing. I would love to hear the animal noises - perhaps when touching the animal or when completing the puzzle. Additional packs of different themed animals would be great too - rainforest, ocean, desert, etc.
General review This app is absolutely adorable! The animal illustrations are cute and engaging, the puzzles are just right for my 3 year old to complete by himself, and there are plenty of different puzzles and puzzle types to choose from. When a puzzle is completed a group of balloons floats to the top and you can pop them - very entertaining!

Trains Story Puzzles - The Little Engine Who Saved the Carnival! [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love that the puzzles get more difficult as you progress. I also like that videos play at the completion of each puzzle and that they can be replayed as many times as desired. I like the story that goes along with the puzzles and like that you can watch the videos all at once if you want to see the complete story at one time.
Improvements I would like to see the words along with the video that shows the entire story to promote literacy. I would also like to be able to choose the level of difficulty for the puzzles. My younger son really enjoys the puzzles but some of the harder ones at too difficult for him and he gets very frustrated. It would be nice to be able to choose between one level of difficulty or the progression of difficulty.
General review This is a great puzzle app for kids as young as 2! The puzzles are engaging and the pictures are cute. There is a video that plays at the completion of each puzzle which is very entertaining. You can also watch the videos all at once and it turns into a cute story about The Little Engine Who Saved Thie Carnival.

Preschool Kitty 1.4 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This app covers a lot of different topics and skills for preschoolers moving seamlessly from one skill to the next. It is fun and engaging, yet simple enough to keep my 3 year old's attention. I love that the statistics are kept for me so I can know where he is excelling and where he could use more work. I also like that I can select the difficult of the different games to match his ability, or even select off for all of one game if it is too difficult or easy for him.
Improvements The music is too repetitive and annoying. I would love to have a choice of a different music. I would also like to see a button during gameplay to get back to the original screen - something like on the first page where it would have to be held down to be used. And my son gets frustrated when he accidentally exits the game and he's not done - he has to start completely over. Multiple users would be a nice feature - I have 2 kids that are old enough to play this game and I would love to see different stats for each of them. The stats always give 100% even when I know a problem has been missed.
General review Wonderful app for practicing preschool skills. It keeps my 3 year old interested and he's learning at the same time! The app covers many important skills for the 2-5 age range including patterns, matching, spot the different, letters, numbers, shapes, etc. The music is pretty annoying, but it is easily turned off.

Healthy Creatures 1.0.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love th simplicity and creativity of this app! My 3 year old was immediately engaged and creating his own pictures without any instruction from me. This app is wonderful for imagination and creativity building. And I love that it is one page with everything you need right there - adding new fruits/veggies, turning, changing the size, removal of a piece, taking pictures and editing pictures. My son had no issues with saving his work and loved that he could go back and edit pictures later.
Improvements Since the touch screen is very sensitive I accidentally change some of the pictures. I would love to see an 'undo' or cancel button. I think it would also be neat if the pictures were named, or if the name of the fruit/veggie was called out when it is selected.
General review This app is wonderful for encouraging creativity in kids of all ages. Instead of playing with food you can play with the app over and over again. I love that my kids are being exposed to healthy food while playing and creating art at the same time. Both my 6 and 3 year old spent a lot of time playing with this app and later showing off their work!

Pin Tiki Ball 1.0 [text] [video]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Overall, I love the app. The graphics are fun and interesting. My kids (3 and 6) loved the tiki guys, and the scorpions, but most of all the funny little noises that they both made. The game was easy to pick up and start playing, even for the 3 year old. But I also loved that there was still a challenge for me which kept me going back to the app over and over.
Improvements I'm very excited to see the next level, and hopefully more levels in the future. I'd love to see more achiements like amount of bananas/coconuts/watermelons earned, number of fireballs achieved, number of scorpions squished, etc.
I'd also like to see the instructions in a more visible place and have them go over more of the game play such as the snakes.
Lastly, I'd like to see how many points each hit is worth. The game is a bit too fast to keep an eye on the score counter, but maybe something popping up with the score would be helpful.
General review This is a fantastic 3d pinball app. The graphics are fun and entertaining, but not distracting. The game play is easy to pick up on - my 3 and 6 year old kids were both able to play within minutes! Yet, there are parts that are still challenging enough for me!

SirMania - Play & Learn v1.1 [text] [video]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The art in this app is whimsical and fun. My kids (3 and 6) particularly enjoyed the sound effects that the animals made when touched, especially the ones that were more of a "potty humor" and the silly faces. I love how interactive the app is, in particular the portions where you are searching for an animal and there are many other parts that you can touch and they respond.
Improvements When the animals are touched I'd love for their name to be spoken, as we were unfamiliar with some of the animals (such as the weasel). My kids would have loved to have more animals to interact with, especially ones with funny results (such as the moose on the first screen). I would like to see a bit more of the educational aspect, like the counting and color recognition.
I found that the voice of the owl sounded a bit like it echoed and my 6 year old had a bit of difficultly understanding what it was saying sometimes.
General review Overall, love the app. My boys really enjoyed playing it and I felt like my 3 year old was getting a lot of color and counting practice which he needs. He thought he was just having fun, but he was learning too. I love the art and the sound effects and my kids were thrilled with the humoristic parts. There is a bit of potty humor to it (an owl poops, a bird farts) which should be considered before purchasing.

Wubbzy's Train Adventure [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked My kids (3 and 6) are familiar with Wubzzy so they were immediately drawn to this app. I love that there are different options depending on how independent your child is with reading. My 6 year old can play on Read and Play and get some reading practice, while the 3 year old plays on Read to Me and just enjoys the story. And I love that I can read it to them on the Just a Book setting and not have to be worried about being interrupted every few seconds! I love the questions at the end.
The animations are enough to keep my kids interested and involved in the story without being too distracted.
Improvements I love to see more interactivity in the animations. When the train is broken and Widget is fixing it, I'd love if the player had to do something such as match the shapes to fix the train.
On the paint page I'd like to be able to paint as if with a brush, instead of each area being filled in.
General review For Wubzzy lovers, this app is wonderful! It features a Wubzzy story that your child can read themselves, or have read to them. There are fun animations to go along with the story and keep the kids engaged. And there are activities to go with the story such as games, videos, and painting. At the end of the story there are questions to prompt parents and kids to talk more about what happened in the story.

Worlds: Tracing App - LITE v1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love the tracing feature of this app. It promotes the correct way to form a letter, and any deviation doesn't work. My kids at 3 and 6 try to make their letters every which way, but this app is strongly enforcing correct form! I like that the vocabulary is on the object, making it very easy for my kids to associate the word with the picture. I like that the letter is spoken after being traced and that the star shows the correct way to trace the letter before hand. My kids love being able to change the colors of the letters.
Improvements I would like to be able to see the entire word while tracing. If that is not possible I'd like the app to scan through the letters at the end while spelling the word. I would also like to see more color options for the letters. I'd like to see the words sounded out phonetically as well as using the letter names.
General review My kids (3 and 6) really enjoy this app. It's wonderful for tracing and learning the correct way to form the letters, as well as learn some new vocabulary. My 3 year old is labeled to practice his letters while my 6 year old is practicing spelling and form.

Christmas Karaoke: Christmas Carols & Christmas Songs vers 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked My kids and I had a blast sitting down to sing some fun Christmas songs. The app was very easy to navigate and the songs were all, pretty familiar. I like that the words appear in red while being sung, so it's easy to follow along. The font was very easy to read, so my 6 year old had no issue singing with me.
Improvements The videos took a long time to load and would often have to pause in the middle to continue loading. I like to see the videos as part of the app so they aren't loading online.
Also, the volume of the videos seemed pretty low despite having the volume on my iPad all the way up.
I would also love to see more song options for kids. My boys love karaoke and would love to sing more kid oriented songs.
General review This app has a lot of traditional Christmas songs ready to sing along too! My kids love to sing Christmas songs, but don't always know the words. With this app we can sing together as a family. The videos can take a bit to load, but once they are ready it's like traditional karaoke with the words highlighted as they come up in the song.

Hedgehog Book v1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love how creative and interactive this app is. My kids love going through and making the pictures over and over - especially the banana flower. I love that they are learning to follow directions by listening and thy get immediate feed back. I also like thwt this is a creative use for these items which may prompt them to use items in the real world more creatively.
Improvements Some of the actions were difficult to figure out without the help button (such as the second eye of th disy flower). A light colored outline for the actions would be nice. On the last scene for the daisy girl the moon changes quickly to a full moon and then back to a half moon - I'd like to be able to see that part a bit longer. And lastly, I'd love to see more interactive stories like these!
General review These interactive stories are quite different than most interactive stories you see. They take ordinary items and put them together to tell a story and make a picture. The entire story is interactive with the user moving pieces around and coloring parts in. My kids (3 and 6) truly enjoy this app!

Creativium - Paper Theater [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love the pictures! All of the animals, trees, castles and such are entertaining and attract my kids to the app. I love tht they are interactive and the little surprises like tapping the trees to make fruit/flowers and then shaking the iPad causes it all to fall off. I love that nearly everything on the screen can be moved or manipulated in some way.
Improvements I would like to see a little more instruction. I was confused with what to do with the app at first. I'd like to see an option to add items and delete items. I'd also like to see more scenes.
An option to record a story would be nice. I love that there is animation after shaking the trees and I'd love to see more animations with that. My kids love surprises, so anything they can touch or shake gets a wild response.
General review A very cute app tht has potential for a lot of fun times! Using your imagination. You can come up with many different scenes and stories. The pictures are very cute and eye catching for young children. There are many different props to explore and arrange. As a family app, this could entertain for hours on end!

Baby Phone [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This is a great app for entertaining babies. It looks very much like a phone, which seems to be what babies desire to play with. Its very simple and bright. I love that the numbers are large and easy to see. I really love that when you "call" a number a nursery rhyme pops up with a fun picture or picture of choice. The music is great as well!
Improvements I'd like it if the numbers were spoken out loud when pressed, and almost if when the buttons were pushed while on a "call" the item was named instead of a seemingly random animal noise. It would be nice if the app were a bit predictably - i.e. the same buttons/numbers go to the same nursery rhyme each time.
General review Great app for entertaining babies!! It's very simple and appears just like a basic phone. There are wonderful nursery rhymes with cute pictures, or you can take your own pictures to be featured! There are ads on the free version.
The numbers are big and could be used to reinforce or learn numbers too!

Jungle Picnic 10.2. [text] [video]

Link to the App Store

What I liked Right from the menu page I was impressed. I love the parent menu and all the tips, but even more so I love that you have to swipe in a direction (which changes each time) using two fingers so my kids won't stumble upon and get stuck on the parent page. I love that it's also this way for the ad in the corner! The story is cute and I love that it's about healthy foods. The interactive parts are wonderful and few enough that we can go through the entire story in one sitting. The games are easy enough that my kids didn't need much instruction at all.
Improvements I didn't realize at first that the games were an extension of the story. I think having the story mode be more prominent than the games would be helpful. On the game version I'd like to see a timer or number of correct matches to see how much/how long you have left.
Most of the picnic items were healthy, so I was surprised to see donuts at the end. I'd love to see a healthier option.
I also think it would be nice if when you selected/matched a food if it were named to help kids recognize more healthy foods. I think seeing foods in apps regularly would help picky eaters try more healthy foods
General review This app is wonderful for kids 2-4, maybe even 5 and 6! My kids (3 and 6) both loved playing this app! The skills it practices (matching and sorting primarily) are wonderful, and I love that the main focus is healthy food. The illustrations are cute and attract my kids.
As the games go on they get more difficult, keeping my kids on their toes!

Meet the Insects: Village Edition (1.0.0) [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love how much information about insects there is in just one app, and how easily it is to find the information. The search feature where you can find bugs based on color of shape is wonderful. I love the observation journal which makes it easy to keep track of bugs we've observed. The navigation menu that pops up from the bottom makes it easy to get from any point in the app to any other point.
Improvements I noticed an issue on the home page when I slide to the to the left to see the insects, the home screen is in the background. It seems like a bug and makes the main part hard to see.
I think it would be helpful to make the selections on the homepage more visually appearing. The butterfly that flutters in the lower right hand corner grabs the attention.
General review If you have a child interested in insects, this app is for you!! There is a lot of information about bugs that live in a village setting (and more apps for other insects!). It's easy to navigate, there are plenty of pictures, the info is read aloud, and there is even an observation journal!

PUZZINGO Puzzles (Pro Edition) – Animated Kid’s Puzzles [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked There is so much to love about this app - the puzzles are wonderful and I love that they build on each other. The themes are images are bright and engaging. Each puzzle is short enough to keep the attention of young kids but long enough that they aren't disappointed when it's done. I love the vocabulary and that's is written with each piece. The core concepts area is my favorite because the concepts are well laid out and perfect for kids learning. I love the follow up games on the princess area in particular where you can dress the princess - would love to see that on more themes.
Improvements I'd love to see even more themes! Puzzles of different difficultly would be appreciate - whether you can choose the level or it gets harder as you go. My 6 year old loves the puzzles but they are much too easy for him. In the core concepts alphabet I found some of the letters hard to discern, specifically H and N.
I love the puzzles with the balloons floating at the end, but I'd like there to be a stopping point. My kids could pop the balloons forever!
General review Wonderful puzzle app that uses attractive themes to engage young children! The puzzles all feature rich vocabulary which is a great platform for learning. This is the educators version so all the puzzles are available in a single download, plus any upcoming puzzles.
The puzzles are perfect for a preschooler!

Weather and Clock for Kids [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love that this is a straightforward app that provides the current weather, temperature, time, and day, and with a few touches you can get the forecast. It's simple enough for my young kids to use and understand, but detailed enough that they can learn from it. I love that you can get current information for cities around the world. I like that you can choose C or F and 12 hour or 24 hour. The little interactive parts (like the window opening and closing) add a bit of fun as well!
Improvements I'd love to be able to add some favorite places so I could add where friends and family live to track. I'd also like to be able to have Celsius and Fahrenheit listed at the same time to learn both forms of measurement. It would also be nice to have the date listed near the day of the week and also on the forecast.
General review This is a wonderful app for teaching kids about weather and time!! It gives current temperature, weather, time, and day for your home location or popular cities around the world! It also provides a 7 day weather forecast! There are some interactive details that make it fun and engaging, but mostly I love this app to start a discussion with my kids (3 and 6) about the weather!

Matryoshka! deluxe [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love this simplicity of this app. It takes no explanation to start. My kids (3 and 6) were able to figure out how to play by themselves with no adult assistance. I like that the entire app is a puzzle based on size. All of the themes are attractive to young kids and kept my kids engaged for well over an hour (which is a long time in the virtual world).
Improvements I'd love to see more games. The last option for the game where you match 10 Matryoshka's is great and I'd like to see more like it! Perhaps games to race the clock or match the top and bottom of the Matryoshka based on color, shape, number, letters, etc.
General review I love this app and will be suggesting it to all of my friends with young kids. Matryoshka dolls are typically a set of wooden dolls that nest inside each other. This app takes the wooden dolls and turns them into a matching and size sorting game. There are different themes (from sports, to farm, to community helpers) with great sound effects to match.

Cutie Monsters-Jigsaw Puzzles [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love the simplicity of this app. The colors are all bright and colorful but not overly cluttered. It's easy to focus on the main character of each slide because there is no distracting background features. I really like the artwork as well - it's appealing and great for young kids. I like the option to have the words read or not. And I really like that the jigsaw puzzles aren't the traditional jigsaw shapes, but follow the shade of the art. It's a great intro to puzzles.
Improvements On the Touch to Read Words part I'd like a way to have the entire sentence read without having to touch each individual word.
When a puzzle is completed it would be nice to have something more happen at the end - perhaps more of the counting and numbers as in the reading portions.
Also, it would be fun to have more interactions on the front - little things like the bird squeaking and the monster dancing is great and I've love to see more of that.
General review This is a wonderful and perfectly simple app for toddlers learning their numbers! The monsters are adorable and not at all scary! The puzzles are are wonderful for the younger ages as they are not typical jigsaw puzzles, but follow the shape of the monsters. The app is quite simple and not distracting, which is perfect for toddlers who are naturally easily distracted!

Strawberry Shortcake Berry Best Friends [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked The read and play area is great. The animations are fun but do not distract from the story. I like that if you touch a word just the single word is said, not the entire sentence. My 7 year old could read this book, but if he were to get tripped up on a word he could easily get the answer.
I love that there are also read to me, and just a book options.
The games are great. For the hair and nail styling games, I like that there are a lot of options to choose from.
Improvements While in the Read and Play we got stuck on the coloring pages. The Home button seemed to just to work.
I'd love to see a few more options for games, or perhaps even an interactive game as part of the story.
The story was great, so I'd love to see another story or two added on.
General review This is a great Strawberry Shortcake app! It has everything you'd expect in a true Strawberry Shortcake fashion. The story is lighthearted and fun with simple animations that add to it. There are 3 games to add to the story that kids are sure to love (hair stylist, nail design studio, and berry blitz)
I also love the coloring pages! There are options to paint, color, add stickers and more!

Money Math: Counting Coins [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love all the different ways to practice with coins. My 6 year old needs practice and I can have him work on the exact area he is having trouble with. I love the options of differs players and the stats in the options screen so I can track how each of my kids are doing individually.
I also like the info bout the states and the coins.
Improvements We don't often use half dollars and some of the state quarters were confusing so I'd like to be able to select which coins are used. It would also be beneficial to younger kids to be able to just practice with pennies, nickels, and dimes individually.
General review This is a great app for practicing using coins in all kinds of different ways:adding coins, making change, more of less, finding a match just to name a few. Ilove that there are different levels so the app can grow with my child. My 6 year old enjoys playing the games and is becoming more familiar with the different coins, how much they're worth, and how to add them.

Magical Music Box v1.15 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love the music selections. They sound crisp, clear, and just right. I really enjoy the different scenes to select from, and that when the handle is turning there is something moving on the screen. That helped to keep my kids engaged in the app and listening to the wonderful music.
I also like the sleep timer. I can invision leaving the app on with the timer at bedtime for myself, or more likely for my kids.
And I love that I can set the handle to turn automatically, or have fun with the speed and turn it myself.
Improvements I'd love to see a playlist feature. it would be great to just set the songs i want to hear, especially for bedtime reasons.
It would also be fun to have the scenes be interactive. For instance, if you touch the cat on the roof, it could meow.
I'd love to see more songs! The selection is great, but even more great classic songs wold be wonderful!
General review The best part about this app is easily the beautiful music, however there are a lot of other factors that I love. The music box scenes are interesting and fun to watch. My kids love turning the handle themselves forwards, and backwards! We all love listening to the music. And a huge bonus - I can let them play with this app without worrying about any ads or in-app purchases.

Wubbzy's 123 Learn & Play [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love the tracing parts. This is a great way to teach kids the proper way to write numbers. I also really like the animations that go along with each number.
The counting games are great - fun, engaging, and really focus on the numbers and the counting.
The color part is fun and I love all the options of coloring methods and colors.
Improvements When tracing the numbers, I'd like to see the line turn solid so that it stands out more. Also on the tracing, when touching the items in the tracing, it would be great if there would be someone counting out loud.
I would also like for the tracing pages to automatically move on after a period of inactivity. I know my younger children wouldn't tap the arrow and would be distracted by something else.
General review Great app for practicing numbers - tracing, counting, and number recognition. Te fact that Wubzy is part of it is just a big plus!
The number tracing shows the correct way to write a number, and there are great animations to go along with it!
There are also fun games that practice counting, and coloring pages with numbers! Great fun for kids!

Good Night Wubbzy Bedtime Counting [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked My favorite part is that this bedtime story incorporated counting practice in with it! I love that you can count what each character is thinking about at bedtime and that it progresses from 1 to 10 - along with the time!
This is a great getting ready for bed app. It's not too exciting and rambunctious, so it's a great calming story.
The extra games are a lot of fun too. I especially like the time setting one.
Improvements I'd like for the pages to automatically advance after a certain period of time, or perhaps a period with no activity.
Also, the ad on the main page is distracting. I prefer kids apps to be ad free.

The videos are great, but I'd like to see something a bit more calm and relaxing in a bedtime app. Even a lullaby with a timer would be great!
General review This is a really fun 'getting ready for bed' app and I think it would be great for a transition from playtime to bedtime.
The story is great but not overly exciting, and it incorporates counting and telling time into it.

I also love the extra games like brushing teeth and getting pajamas on.

Great for preschool age kids!

Spellyfish - Short A Words (v1.0.0) [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked This app makes spelling practice fun! The graphics are great and the voice is clear and easy to understand. My kids enjoyed playing and hardly realized they were practicing spelling.
I like that the vowels are a different color than the consonants. Also, I like having the option to choose between the alphabetical keyboard and the qwerty keyboard.
Improvements I would love be able to add my own words or an entire list of my own. Or at least have more word lists to choose from, even if they were a separate purchase.
I would like an option where incorrect letters were not marked red which would prevent self-correction.
General review Great app for spelling practice, though there are a limited amount of words to practice. The voice dictating the words is clear and easy to understand. There are options for what the letters look like, how loud the sounds are, what type of keyboard and more. Statistics are easy to view, save, or email to yourself!

Tic Toc Time: Break down the day to learn how to tell time [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I am amazed at how thoroughly this app covers time. I love that it starts with the compass and the sun and eases into time, explaining the science behind it.
The graphics are wonderful and eye catching.
The clocks are easy to read and I appreciate the little blue dots for the hour hand.
I love the telling time practice games as well.
Improvements The game runs a bit slow and often freezes for a moment on the loading screen.
The narrator has a bit of a lisp which makes him a bit difficult to understand some times.
I could never figure out how to add my child's picture in the yellow frame, and I couldn't figure out how to add multiple users. If that isn't an options, I'd definitely like to see it in the future.
General review Great app for teaching kids all about time - how we measure time and why, and also great practice in telling time.
The graphics are wonderful, the games are engaging, and the thoroughness of the app is amazing. Definitely worth it for any child who needs to learn how to tell time, or needs more practice in telling time!

Wubbzy's Puzzles [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love puzzle apps, and this one hits the nail on the head. I appreciate the easy, medium, and hard level options for every puzzle.
I love that each completed puzzle has a little story to go with it and the interactive characters are great.
My favorite part though is that the ads and parent area are all protected. I don't have to worry about my child accidentally clicking an ad!
Improvements I'd love to be able to scroll to the next puzzle on the same level without backing out. Just a minor inconvenience, but when I'm letting my 2 year old play he can scroll from one puzzle to the next, but if he had to back out he wouldn't choose the correct level again.
You might also consider an option where the line guides on the puzzles could be removed. That would be particularly helpful on the hard level.
General review Great puzzle app! I love the different difficulty levels and the short stories after a puzzle is completed. I appreciate that ads and the parent area are protected with an age verification.
The puzzles are perfect for all 3 of my kids - 2, 4, and 7 - and we love Wubbzy!

Math Mathews : Mental Math 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love that this math game isn't all math - it's a real video game that incorporates math. When my kids they are eager to get to the next level.
I love that you can select which math facts to practice. My son needs more work on 1-10 so that's what we chose for him.
Also, I appreciate that there are no ads or in app purchases!
Improvements I would love an option for the math facts to be timed.
The logbook is great. I wouldn't mind a more detailed log telling which math problems they are having difficulty with and which ones they know well.
A similar version of this game with even simpler math concepts - like counting, patterning, shapes, identifying numbers - would be great!
General review This app is perfect for math practice. My 7 year old enjoys playing and his is greatly improving in his math facts as he plays.
I love that it is safe for him to play - no ads, no in-app purchases, etc.
The story line is fun, exciting, and exchanging for him.

Plume's school - Animals [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love that this app is all about learning animals for young kids. My 2 year old and 4 year old could easily follow this app while learning about all kinds of different animals.
I love the different levels and how they progress in difficulty.
I especially like the different games and how they each cover animals but in a slightly different way.
Thank you for not putting ads in the app!
Improvements One issue I noticed is that the ladybug is referred to as a ladybird - common difference between US and UK.
Also, while I do like the cart, I would love if some of the images were the real animals. Cartoons often look very different than the real versions.
General review Great app for learning animals! I love all the different games to play and the different levels. My kids love learning about different animals! The cartoon animals are cute.
The directions are simple and easy to follow which makes it a great choice for younger kids.

And there are no ads or additional in-app purchases either!

Jack and the Beanstalk a Mathematical Adventure - HD V1.1 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love that this app integrates math practice into a fun story. My kids were so into the story that the math came naturally.
The illustrations are bright and inviting.
The story is a classic itself, and this one was a great version.
I love that the math problems change each time you go through it. No cheating!
Improvements At the beginning of the story Jack climbs up the beanstalk in x hours, and at the end he climbs down in x hours. When we went through the story the times didn't match up and my kids were confused.
I'd love to see the illustrations change a bit more with the story. They're wonderful illustrations and we'd like more!
The math facts jumped around in difficultly a bit much. My 7 year old could easily do some and had difficulty with others.
I'd also like to see an option where the answer is explained for some of the more difficult problems.
General review This app is great for some fun math practice. The story is fun and entertaining, and the math fits right in! My kids were having a great time trying to figure out the math problems.
In a relatively short story, I'm impressed with how many different math concepts were covered.

A Day in the Zoo - 1.0.1 [text]

Link to the App Store

What I liked I love the simplicity of this app - it is perfect for young toddlers. It's not overwhelming and has just enough animals to keep it interesting.
The info about the animals is great and just enough for an introduction.
The little activities (rubbing the hippos belly) are just right for the age group. My toddler loves that particular activity.
Improvements I'd like an option where the reading is completed despite the screen being touched again. So often my son gets excited and starts to tap all over, so we never get to hear the full sentences.
I'd love to see more interactive activities like the hippo.
More animals would be great! Maybe sections such as rainforest animals, ocean animals, etc.
General review Great app for young toddlers! The pictures are great, the reading is just the right length for the age, and there is interesting information about a few common zoo animals.
It's interactive yet simple. All my of my kids have found this app interesting - up to 7 years old!
I love that there are different languages to choose from too. Sometimes we switch the language just to hear another language being spoken.
