What I liked Once you get the hang of it, I think you can generally input expenses and incomes quickly and easily. The methods to view your balance between income and expense are great. Tab bar navigation makes it very easy to switch between options. Information on the overview screen is easy to read and very helpful to see at a glance, particularly the Balance percentage and the Daily Average dollar amount.
Improvements Spelling and grammar problems are far too prevalent in this app. When seeing this many easy to fix errors, it makes me not trust the application as much, and trust is very important when you want your users to enter their personal financial information. Tab bar options and order could be improved in my opinion, they should be: Overview, Incomes, Expenses, Reports, Settings. Ability to share this information with another user (for example, husband and wife managing finances together) would be an amazing feature!
General review Once you learn how to enter data, this application can be very useful for viewing your income vs. expenses, monthly budget remaining, and daily budget allowance. Some of the buttons are small and there are far too many spelling and grammar problems, but if you are ok with those then this app does everything it should and even looks kind of cool - particularly the overview screen and report visualizations.

What I liked Game play mechanics were fun, tapping of each item was seamless, having each level have less and less time adds to excitement and desire to improve. Illustrations were nice. Great idea to have a completely self-contained app (no social, data collection, upgrades, etc.) so that parents don't have to worry. It is good to see your personal best scores for each level as well as other players using the same device.
Improvements Lots of white blank screen space - could use more design to take advantage of iPad size and quality. When game is complete, make clear in text that you can must hit back, or provide 'Next Level' or 'Replay' buttons. Provide positive feedback for good performances. Background music slider should be an actual Xcode slider element. On main tab bar - maintain navigation items for Play Game and Sales Records instead of replacing tab bar content - maybe use split view controller for Sales Records submenu options. Subtracting gameplay seems to teach Counting more than Subtracting.
General review This app has good game play mechanics and makes it fun to improve how quickly you can Add/Subtract/Multiply/Divide. However, there are some small design issues that could be improved and there is a limited content scope. Overall the fun game play and self-contained nature of the app should make for a good learning tool for parents to give to their kids.

What I liked This app has a pretty good icon, a good name, and the app downloaded from the app store pretty quickly. The visuals look really good. The field background graphic looks crisp and very cool. Player entry and player list are easy to use and look really good as well.
Improvements When enter a player name, have it default to initial capping each word. When select Email option, you should prefill a subject line and maybe some text, as well as include the view from your players list. When selecting the actions button, then Cancel, it opens up the form to send a tweet. It looks like 'Utility Player' and 'Center Fielder' are swapped on the field. Very light on features. Suggestions for features: Re-arrange batting line-up, multiple lineups, multiple teams, notes about players, enter player statistics, search through player statistics.
General review iLineup HD looks great. It is very simple, quick, and obvious to enter player names and send the lineup. However, the app is VERY light on features. Once you enter your player names and substitutes, that is all you can do. Aside from the visuals (which are very good), this app doesn't do that much more than any notepad would do.

What I liked This app had a good icon and home screen (good first impression). All of the graphics and animation in this application look great! I like how the icons on the home screen slide in. I also like that the Settings/Facebook/Twitter icons are available from the top of each horoscope but also appear at the bottom if you scroll all the way down. The actual content of the horoscopes was good and getting daily notifications with your horoscope I think would be interesting to a lot of people.
Improvements In settings I had to select Done after changing each item otherwise it would only save the last item that I updated. If I change any of the options they should remain permanently changed. When notification time is set, users in the US are used to seeing AM/PM when the time is displayed. When a notification was sent it said "Here's your today's Heroscope" which I think is awkward wording. When opening notification it did not go directly to my horoscope. A good feature would be showing a daily pose/position. Also, show a graphic for the position because some people wont know what it is.
General review This application is a good idea and looks great. The content of the app is interesting and could keep people coming back frequently. It might be slightly light on features/content for an app that costs $2. Adding a few more things to keep people interested on a daily basis (such as a daily pose/position) could add a lot of value.

What I liked Graphics look really nice. Animations and other motion graphics generally look very good and professional. The characters in each of the games added some interest to the experience. I could see these games being very useful to children either learning or just for fun. The icon is good and the presentation in the App Store is also done very well.
Improvements From the tic-tac-toe game, to go back there is a folded page tab on the top right, if you swipe it down you should see an animation peeling back the page. Settings button told me to press and hold for 3 seconds then went to a blank screen. I had to quit the app and reopen. Slight shift between splash screen and home screen.
General review Very nice graphics, animations, and characters throughout the games in this app. The games were all very easy to play and generally easy to learn quickly. There were a few minor bugs and a few minor chances for improvements, but this app could be very fun and a bit informative for children. Not sure it is worth the price with the small number of games though.

Legend of Fat Ninja [text]

What I liked The name Legend of Fat Ninja is great in my opinion. Icon is pretty good. Instructions to start with are a good detailed description of how everything works. The comic strips telling the story, animations, graphics, etc. are all very good. The game seems extremely professional and cool looking. Game play is very fun and accomplishments add to the fun of it. After playing Angry Birds for awhile, my thought was 'this is it'? But this game seems to have a lot more to it. Great job!
Improvements Ninja should be fatter or have a more comical or interesting appearance. First few game plays were difficult because I was flying around so quickly that I couldn't tell what I was supposed to accomplish. I finally caught on once I noticed the icon below me that would indicate where a Ninja was - this was not clear from the instructions. Help should also be on Main screen. Unpause button wasn't as noticeable as Restart. After first level, instead of Restart and Exit, you should have some button indicating that you can go to the next level.
General review Overall game play of Legend of Fat Ninja is great. It is fun to play and you can feel yourself getting better and you really gain a desire to want to get better and accomplish more. My only complaints were minor like Help should be on the Main screen as well, the unpause button wasn't quite prominent enough, and the Ninja should have been fatter. This is definitely a game I will be playing frequently, better than Angry Birds in my opinion.

What I liked I appreciated the story element and attempt to create a background and investment in the game play. The music was decent and music during the enemy turn was intense and makes you anxious to anticipate what the enemy might do. It doesn't take too long to figure out how to move and attack.
Improvements The graphics were not as good as I've seen in other games or as good as I expected. Even the UI elements like buttons and text seemed grainy or not very well built. I didn't like the character movements - it looks like they are constantly doing a bad shoulder dance. It doesn't make sense that Quick Save exits to the main screen. Also, 'New Game' initial shows 'No Campaign Saved' but should offer you a new game instead assuming you will click 'No Campaign Saved'. Starting a new game goes through too much intro text. 'New Game' and 'Load Game' basically do the same thing.
General review Overall the game play wasn't very fun. Graphics weren't very good, even if they were going for an old school RPG effect. It takes a very long time to move characters around the board in order to attack and doesn't seem that fun to do so. The game might be more interesting if you could play against other people, although I did not see this option.

Christmas Karaoke: Christmas Carols & Christmas Songs vers 1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

Rating
What I liked Good icon. I like the info that is included about each Christmas carol. The app is pretty simple which can be good to focus the users attention on the point of the app which is to sing Christmas carols with each other. Tab bar navigation is pretty simple as well and lets users quickly understand everything that is included in the app and how it works.
Improvements App name seems very long. Videos should rotate to horizontal view so they fill the whole screen. Also you should offer a version with the music but no singing as this is how karaoke is most often done. "Contacts" tab should be "Contact". Graphics overall are very unimpressive. Images for an Xmas app should be really interesting, vibrant, and cheerful.
General review This app does have a good list of Christmas carols if you want to play them and sing along, but it doesn't do much else. All songs have the lyrics being sung which doesn't really seem like karaoke. The graphics are pretty unimpressive as well. Overall this is a pretty simple and not great looking app, but if you just want a short list of carols to sing then it will work.

Wild City 1.0.1 [text]

What I liked Nice icon and app name. Graphics and interface elements look really good. It is easy to navigate the different buildings in the city. There are a ton of options in this game and I think that is very compelling. I was very interested when early in the game I was given a mission to rob "The Landlady". It appeared that this was an actual live player? If so then that is a great feature of the game and very impressive.
Improvements Maybe some overview would be helpful, ie. your goal is to gain experience and money by completing missions. There is also a lot of small text in this app including the top bar showing status of several different items. I'm not sure there is much you can do about this without removing options/items which I think is a major positive of this application. It would be a great addition if you could actually fight instead of just selecting 'Fight' and having the game do it for you.
General review Overall this game is very interesting. The graphics are good and there are a ton of options and levels to go through in the app. There is a lot to explore and the missions would keep everyone interested for a long time. It is a typical violence app where your missions are to commit crimes, but it is very well executed if you like violent games.

AdjustGrid / version1.0 [text] [video]

What I liked I thought this app was actually very useful for someone very new to photography like myself. Once I found the 'About' section that describes the composition types, I realized what the app was used for and found it very interesting. The scope of the app was good and it was easy and simple to use.
Improvements 'About' is a very important section and could use a different title. Often 'About' is just a page saying who made the app and it is pretty useless, so some users might skip this. I think the scope of the app (number of and description of compositions) was pretty good, but once users learn these, maybe there could be a way to get even more knowledge on these subjects through the app.
General review This application provides useful grid lines as well as descriptions of different composition types so that you can learn something and try it out with some help. I found it very interesting and could definitely see this being useful and interesting to other new (or maybe not so new) photographers.

What's Faster LITE Cars- Ultimate Trivia & Puzzle Game [text]

Link to the App Store

Rating
What I liked Nice icon. Nice graphics and good use of sound. Just as I was wondering what the Radar Gun was used for, a prompt appeared that told me what is was - good timing. The game play is pretty obvious once it starts so there is really no learning curve, you just download and start using it.
Improvements When you select a car, it should tell you how fast each one goes (does for radar gun but not otherwise). There should be some additional information without having to download an add-on, otherwise there isn't much reason to play this game. Back from the game play should take you back one screen, not to the main menu. Not sure why there are 6 Xs if you can only get 5 wrong.
General review This game has good graphics, animations, and sounds. Playing this trivia game is kind of interesting and easy and quick to do. At first download I thought there might be a little more to this game, ultimately unless there is a lot more learning or interesting facts, there isn't too much reason to play.

Claustrophobic, v1.1 [text]

What I liked The game play in this app is pretty fun. It feels both natural and challenging to try to move the ball around. I like the graphics of the ball and some of the obstacles. It is good that it integrates with game center and I like that you can do a game capture.
Improvements I think the background, ball trail graphics, and the explosion graphics don't look that great and could be improved a lot. In the help screens, the options should be 'previous', 'close', and 'next'. 'previous' and 'back' are too similar. I think you are going to lose a lot of users by giving only 1 life. I'm not sure if other games do this but I thought it was pretty bad and I would have deleted the game at this point and written a bad review.
General review Overall game play is natural, fun, and challenging. Some of the graphics are good but there is definitely room for improvement. There are a lot of different obstacles and rewards in this game that make it more interesting. However, after losing all your lives, you only get 1 life from then on unless you buy more.

CoverMe - Private Texting & Secure Phone Calls with Password Locked Safe Vault to Protect Secret Contacts, Text Messages, Personal Photos & Videos - V1.0.2 [text]

Link to the App Store

Rating
What I liked This is a very feature rich and thorough application. It has all the features you would expect from an application like this such as password protection and private messaging. It also has a lot of helpful features that I would not have thought of like messages that self-destruct either immediately after reading or in 5 minutes, pictures taken of people who try to login unsuccessfully, and decoy passwords.
Improvements There are some very minor touches of professionalism that could be added to this app that I think would make it complete. Some alignment is off such as "Back" text on the back button and the name of the other person when you are in the message view. Also the buttons like "Back", "Done", "Call", "Edit", and "Info" look to simple. These buttons and alignment problems don't fit the quality and features of the rest of the application so it seems a bit odd when I spot these things. Seeing multiple consecutive popups requesting access to data is troubling, although i'm not sure of a solution.
General review Overall this application is very impressive in it's scope of features and usefulness. I'm not sure I have a lot of need for private messages, but if I did this app would more than meet all of my needs. It has some very interesting features such as Intruder Login pictures, Decoy Passwords, and auto-recall/auto-deleting of messages. This app is highly recommended to anyone with a need.

Minesweeper, no guess V1.0 [text]

Link to the App Store

Rating
What I liked I liked that this app gets you to playing the game Minesweeper very quickly and intuitively. There isn't much start up time, you can just open and play and compare against previous high scores. I also thought the Instruction section was interesting in that it explained some paradigms about playing minesweeper to help you improve and recognize patterns easily. I liked that you can place flags or question marks to help you organize the board quickly. The Score section also clearly listed high scores to help you track your success.
Improvements The Instruction section, while helpful, also had many odd grammar problems when in English. The entire top summary section explaining the app could almost not be understood at all. Although the game is mostly just about getting to the minesweeper board, some of the surrounding graphics and the app icon look a bit old for some reason. The ad banner was also very distracting, but maybe that's intended to encourage purchasing the full version.
General review This is an interesting Minesweeper app that encourages using common known Minesweeper patterns so that the player can always win if they know what they are doing. The features that you would expect are all there (like detailed high score info) so it makes for a good playing experience.

CBC Radio [text] [video]

Rating
What I liked The app downloaded quickly and start up was quick and clean. The app seems pretty straightforward despite having no familiarity with CBC. It was easy enough to figure out that the main categories on the Home page are the different stations and it was very quick and easy to start playing something. I like the clean and structured layout which gives easy and quick access to lots of content.
Improvements There were only a few minor problems I found. One is that the Back button appears dim on most pages until you get to a station/program that is playing then it looks normal/enabled. I'm not sure why this happens but it makes it look like the Back button is disabled. Also, when adjust audio for a program, it appears to work correctly until volume is turned up past 1/3 volume, then it appears to jump to full volume, although the actual volume still works. For a wish list item, it might be interesting to see other methods of finding programs, like sorting by popular or most listened.
General review Overall this app is really good and allows very quick and easy access to a lot of CBC live programs and on demand programs. It is a clean and simple application and is organized well in order for people to be able to find what they want as quick as possible. You can have an interesting program playing within seconds.

Talking Duke 2 3.3.2 [text]

Rating
What I liked The graphics and animation in this app were both very good. I liked the variety of animations/options that you could do with the dog as well as the 2 different locations. Everyone I showed the app to was very interested and thought the character and animations were funny.
Improvements I think the app was pretty quick to try to get you to spend money in the app. When testing for the first time one of the first icons I clicked on had to do with spending money and that might turn people off - although I know you have to try to make money somehow. Maybe you could make the upsell options less prominent until they've used the app for awhile. Also, my child (8 months) was interested in the animation and repeating, but the character was kind of far back and taking up a small amount of the screen so he couldn't really see. It would be nice if there was a zoom in view.
General review Overall this application is fun and the graphics and animations look great. The voice repeating is funny and will definitely entertain. The app is a bit limited and quick to upsell though and it would be nice if a few more features were offered before you had to pay money.

Calm Down Now [text]

What I liked I like the concept, this could be useful to a lot of people and at the very least good as a free app. I like the name of the app, the icon, and generally like the colors used in the application. I also generally like the organization because it is simple and pretty straightforward. All of the audio and Relaxing Sounds are great.
Improvements The UI, although the colors were nice and calming, was just a bit amateurish. The Relaxing Sounds player was a bit confusing. Once you select a sound(s) it is available from the player, but there isn't really any way to see your current setting. If you select a sound(s) it should somehow indicate what is selected, or that there is nothing selected. Also when nothing is selected, the popup states "There are not any song in the Relaxation Sound list" but i don't see a reference to a list anywhere - maybe creating a list section within the sounds section would help these problems.
General review Overall this application is a great idea for helping people calm down. It has some simple audio tracks and relaxing sounds, as well as some step-by-step visual strategies for calming down or for doing positive affirmations. The UI could be improved a bit to make the app look more polished and "iPhone-like".
