|What I liked||This app is fun to use for creative writing on the iPad. It is easy to use and offers several themes to guide the writing. Stickers are available to enhance the pages in the book, as well as a variety of backgrounds. I appreciate the selection of vocabulary per theme.
|Improvements||It would be helpful to be able to duplicate words that are created on a page, instead of retyping those words. Is it possible to delete a word from the page? Having punctuation marks available with the words might encourage users to actually use those marks in their writing. A connection to learning objectives would be helpful for the classroom teacher.
|General review||I think this is a wonderful way to encourage students to write; the vocabulary offers plenty of avenues for the writer to take without guiding the thought processes too much. Some of the methods for changing options on the page of the book can be somewhat cumbersome, but not so much that I wouldn't use this app. I think it's a great investment for developing future writers!|
|What I liked||1. The first think I like is that this application is secure. I had to answer a math question to acces the parents corner. Not a lot of educational applications do this, so it's worth noting.
2. I have to say that the number of stickers, letters, words plus more is incredible. Lots and lots of customizing is here, and it's hard to make two pages look the same.
3. Very enjoyable user interface, but I have some bad things to say in the next section about it.
|Improvements||1. I have to say that the user interface is very good for kids, but I would like to see it be more fluid When going through it. I would like to see no more check signs, and I would like to tap and advance. Now, you have to make too many steps.
2. The slide menu is a nice thing to have, but unfortunately it's a bad execution. The touch is not very sensitive and I found myseft trying lots of times to summon it until it finaly worked.
3. This application can't be used by some kids on their own. It can get a bit confusing some times, and this is the result of the above problems.
|General review||This is a very nice concept that kids really love. Unfortunately it has some touch sensitivity problems that really affect the experience. I would highly recomand fixing this becouse the kids had some spectaculars result with it and they want to use it more.|
|What I liked||i really like the idea of this app. There are more than 4,500 words provided with all different tenses and word endings included. You can choose from a wide range of fonts, colors and stickers. Magnets can be re-sized and moved easily. It is great that you can add your own words. Stories and poems can be saved in a custom "book" and shared with friends.
|Improvements||I really did not understand the organization of the app. I would like the flexibilty to choose a single page and to select the number of pages for a book, instead of the default 12. When I chose the rocket only a few of the random words related to that theme. It was not possible to create a story or poem using just those words, and adding more is a bit cumbersome. None of the stickers, words or fonts are alphabetized so it is very hard to find what you want. Art work is a bit babyish for the age targeted by the difficulty of the words.
|General review||This is a great idea but I think the organization needs to be improved. The randomly generated words don't match the themes and none of the resources- fonts, words, pictures- are alphabetized. There is a mis-match between the graphics, which are geared to younger children, and the words, which are very challenging. It would be better as 2 separate apps, or with the option to select an easier set of words.|
|What I liked||What I liked about Word Creativity Kit is that it has an abundance of features to engage children of all ages. I love that a child has the ability to create poetry and short stories using the magnetic word feature. I loved the ability to take a picture and using words to describe it. This makes for wonderful practice of literary skills. The app is child friendly and easy to use. It has 7categories with over 4,500 words to use which is amazing. I really liked that children enjoyed using the app and putting words into a silly order. This app would be great to aid in teaching poetry to children.
|Improvements||What I would like to see improved in in a future version:
- The app needs a more effective way to organize and access different aspects of the app. The categories presented are not relevant to the words given on the page. Also, the words should have levels; in example for easy (Pre-k - 2 grade) and hard (3 - 6 grade) to address needs of both younger and older children.
- While using a swipe to access at times could not be easily swiped over. I like the ability to have the full page but perhaps the ability to change access from swiping to clicking on something in order to bring up the menu.
|General review||Word Creativity Kit is an app with amazing potential to be a great educational tool for children. The app is fun and colorful. The graphics are nice and children are introduced to many options such as fonts, making their own words, adding pictures and graphics to help tell their original stories. With a few modifications I think this app would become an essential learning tool that I would recommend.|
|What I liked||I like the variety and the options available to use. There were a lot of different background choices, stickers, fonts, etc... to choose from.
I like that you can choose more words than are on the page or make up your own.
I like the tutorial that helps you figure out where the options were. The videos were a little fast at times for younger children though.
|Improvements||It was extremely frustrating trying to get the options on the left of the screen open. We pressed it, slid it, you name it and it would not open. Then all of a sudden it would open. It would be much better if there was a button in the corner to open the extra options up.
I liked that you could get more words and/or create your own. I wish the words that you can select from the left were in categories. If you want a verb, noun, adverb, adjective, etc... you can select it from a list and then only the verbs, nouns, etc.. that you chose would come up.
The app froze and crashed a few times.
|General review||This is a good app that works on creative writing skills. There are a variety of options to choose from such as backgrounds, stickers, and fonts to enhance the stories that are written. This is a great app for at home or in a classroom setting to work on a group project.|
